So, what do you think of Train? What do you think this non-Kris-co-write will be like?

I like Train, mostly. One of my girlfriends is a longtime fangirl (from their playing-in-bars-in-Erie days), and she introduced me to them many years ago.

I do think they have a tendency to live in a defined sound rut. (Did that come out right?) They have a distinct sound, which I think is good for a band - but maybe the parameters of that sound have stayed too narrow. I guess that's my only complaint.

When Kris tweeted "Hey" one day, I almost replied "hey sister, soul sister - or hey jude - or hey momma, hey momma?" So, Train was on my mind then, I guess.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID:
Lyndsey said it was a "slow song" (apparently in the same vein as The Fray and Gavin DeGraw) and that Kris' "breathy vocal was lovely", her least favorite. [Source: Album Preview 10/21]

My prediction:
The artistic irony of this song clearly was too subtle for Lyndsey Parker to pick up on. In reality, it's a ballad about "The Lies" - and Kris sings the entire song about how real he is.

In case Parker was correct and there simply was no irony (which would be a crying shame!) I actually have higher hopes for this song than she does, I think. It's definitely the one I'm least looking forward to (well either that or "Written All Over My Face") because Kris didn't write it, but I don't think that means it's necessarily worse. Um... I guess I don't have any real predictions because I'm not uber familiar with the writers... I'm going out on a limb and saying it's totally a piano ballad.

I don't know a lot about Train, but I really like or at least accept all of their music that I have heard. For some reason, I really love When I Look To The Sky. Something about what was going on in life the first time I heard it. I think Kris would sound really great on that kind of a song. I agree that a piano-driven song is likely. Watching it be all ukulele or something, lol.

I love Drops of Jupiter... that's Train, right? So it's my theory that this piece is a shout out to Mishavonna Henson :D

Ok, not really. For me it could go either way, as I like DOJ, but really don't care much for Soul Sister.

This is gonna sound weird, but does this song seem David Cook-esque to anyone else? The first time I heard the snippet I had like some kind of "David Cook?" moment! I actually really like this.

LOL he had a song on Analog Heart w/that title. I dunno if they really sound alike aside from the ~pop/rock ballad thing ;)

Right now, when I see this title, I automatically sing in my head:

If you wanna know the truth
You make or break my day

Um, oops? It's one of my favorite Cook songs, so my brain gets confused. With how it sounds, though, I'm (not all that) sorry to say that once I hear the full song? Kris's will be the one prevalent in my mind.
no song either of us writes will ever, ever compare to this

I thought Daughtry. What I just noticed listening again (I really need to stop) is that they left in that sucking air in through his teeth thing that shows up on some of the songs on BNS.
. . . if Allen could be freed from the gaggle of producers who produced this, and allowed to write his own songs, he could be a serious contender!

I thought Daughtry as well. But the mention of "Avalanche" also brings to mind David Cook since he has a song called Avalanche on his album. Avalanche is my favorite example of music being so subjective. It never did a thing for me but every DC fan I know just loves it.
