(bringing this over from "The Truth" thread. for future reference, it's easiest to just post in whatever thread is most relevant. it'll bump the thread and people will see there's a new post, so you don't have to worry about it getting overlooked.)
shopgirl2514 wrote:I know this isn't the best place to talk about the album, but that thread looks dead. Has anyone noticed whether or not the album got a boost after it was put on sale at Amazon for $4.99 (and then $5.00)?

Brian Mansfield only gets certain numbers every week from his source (apparently he gets numbers from the top-selling albums year-to-date as well as some extra country album numbers). He doesn't have all the data. Because of this, we haven't been able to track the sales for Kris Allen in the past couple weeks to see how they're fluctuating.

Personally, I have never really looked at Amazon's album charts and I'm not entirely sure how they even work so I wouldn't know how to read them, anyway. I doubt that the sale has contributed significantly to sales, but I'd guess that they have resulted in small positive week-to-week changes.

A few weeks ago I started getting Billboard mailed to me (because I did a survey, which is great because I wouldn't pay for it). Anyway, the top 200 album chart in the magazine occasionally does little asides about a few of the CDs in the lower end of the chart that made great strides this week and sometimes notes that their chart rise is due to an amazon sale. KATA was not on the top 200 list in the last issue, hope to see it next week, but we'll see.

Are they selling CD's at the merch tables at these concerts?

I know that someone at a recent concert with Barenaked Ladies said some people were buying some, so they're selling at some concerts, definitely. They didn't have any at my show in Tucson, but they had all the other merch. (Also, that was show where Kris was the opener, so that might have had something to do with it, IDK).

Like ryo said they're selling the CDs. They had them at both my shows (one was a radio show, the other a solo show).

ETA:
Sales from USA Today (8/18)

Gosh, this thread hasn't been alive for months! Is there any way at all to get updated sales figures for KATA? He sold it at his summer concerts and now at the Lifehouse tour as well.

There was an article alluding to him approaching gold soon but I don't know if they're just putting a spin on it.

Brian Mansfield updates the album numbers for KATA every once in a while. I believe it was at 321 or 322k the last time. The album has been selling < 1000 copies a week for months now.

KATA does not really have a prayer of going gold at this point. (Unless some fan decides to buy 180k copies lol)

My understanding is that it's a long and complicated process to get Soundscan to recognize albums sold at concerts. I doubt that the number of albums sold would justify the hassle and/or possible expense.
